Once upon a time, Rhodes was a heavily forested area on the southern shores of the Parramatta River, but by the 1930s industry had moved in and Rhodes came to be known as a site for chemical manufacturing and a former iron works. Not much changed for the next 50 years or so, and this industrial reputation lasted well into the 20th century.

But in recent years, times have changed. The chemical plants of yesteryear have been replaced by high-rise apartments, offices and a shopping centre. Rhodes has come a long way baby, and more and more people are starting to discover just what this suburb on the rise has to offer.

With its multicultural population, Rhodes is a diverse and intriguing suburb. There’s an increasing number of cafes and restaurants, decent shopping (including the aforementioned IKEA), and the suburb has its very own cinemas. Modern apartment buildings and offices are seemingly everywhere you look, and the streets are often a hive of activity.

One thing that hasn’t changed about Rhodes is its beautiful river frontage, and there are plenty of apartments boasting lovely water views. Its location is also quite convenient, with a busy train station within easy walking distance and the Sydney CBD just 16km away.

There are also plenty of good reasons to get out and about and stay active when you live in Rhodes. Waterfront paths are popular with walkers, joggers and dog owners, Bennelong Bridge lets walkers and cyclists explore further afield, and there are several great family parks in the area.
