Add this to the suburb’s dedicated train station (located on the North Shore & Western Line) and easy access to main arterial roads, and it’s easy to understand why Waitara is seen as a suburb on the move.

Waitara’s active, and notably multicultural community is yet another way the area stands out from its more famous neighbours. With approximately two-thirds of residents born overseas, the area is home to significant Chinese, Indian, and Iranian populations. • The expanded and upgraded Orara Park was opened to the public in April 2019 and provides the surrounding community with great play facilities and plenty of green space.
  
  
• If you’re looking to go for a walk with your furry friend, you may need to travel a little further afield, but there are some great options in the surrounding area, like St Ives Showground (about a 20 minute drive away) which has four fenced off-leash areas and an off-leash forest.

• Renamed in 2011 in recognition of the cricketing great’s connection to the area, Mark Taylor Oval features a full-size oval with a turf pitch, as well as both synthetic and turf practice nets, and tennis courts.

Living

With natural bushland making up about 70% of the landscape, the Hornsby area has well and truly earned its reputation as the ‘Bushland Shire’. Being surrounded by green space and waterways also gives the area a particularly outdoorsy feel. Locals love getting out and making the best of their beautiful surrounds, whether that be via a leisurely stroll along one of the area’s many walking tracks, floating a dinghy on Parsley Bay, or ramping up the adrenaline and taking the bike off-road.

This area’s space and slower pace of life provides a great balance for the more suburban southern half.
