The annual display features the familiar ferris wheel, Christmas crackers with messages in different languages and a nativity scene. Thousands of people; the young and the young at heart, make a pilgrimage to the river each December to see the Brewery lights and get well and truly into the Christmas spirit. The South Australian Brewing company have been setting up this display every year since 1959, when staff banded together to tidy up the riverbank and bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the people of Adelaide.

Thebarton is super close to the City. You can hope on a tram at the Bonython Park stop and get to the CBD for free. Alternatively, it takes only five bus stops or a 20-minute cycle to get to the centre of town.

Initially called Theberton, in honour of Colonel Light’s English homestead, Thebarton was our state’s first village outside of the City. The replacement of the ‘e’ with the ‘a’ has been explained as a typographical error.

Before the extensive amalgamations of smaller towns during the 1990s, Thebarton formed part of the wider Town of Thebarton. As a result, many of the local landmarks and attraction include Thebarton in their name but are technically not part of the suburb. Examples are Thebarton Theatre, Thebarton Oval, Thebarton Senior Collage and the Thebarton Community Centre.
